Who We Are
The London Wing Chun Academy is a non-profit organisation that promotes the study of Wing Chun Kung Fu, an ancient Chinese martial art. The academy is led by Sifu Angel (above right), who has over 20 years of martial arts experience, including Karate, Kick boxing - and of course, Wing Chun Kung Fu, as taught by Grandmaster William Cheung (above left).
Sifu Angel teaches Wing Chun pro bono (i.e. donates his time). He has done much of his Wing Chun education in the 1990-1997 period in his native Macedonia with Master Mirko Todorovski and Master Gjore Kostovski, and has attended and hosted numerous seminars with/for Grandmaster Cheung in the UK and Europe since then as well.
Wing Chun was created in the Shaolin temple during the early year of the rule of the Ching Dynasty (1644-1911) of China. Legend has it, with traditional kung fu styles taking 15-20 years to master, five of the Shaolin grandmasters embarked on a task to create a new martial art that would require shorter training time, and be more effective than other systems.
The product was Wing Chun, but it ended up being passed to just a few select disciples over the years until it reached Yip Man who also did not take on any students until he was forced to flee the Chinese revolution in 1949 to Hong Kong.
Grandmaster William Cheung, one of Yip Man earliest students in Hong Kong in the 1950s, a friend and teacher of Bruce Lee, a wonderful human being, and a man on a 40+ year old mission to promote the traditional style of Wing Chun that we are so lucky to be able to practice.
